"DG: I joined Netscape long after the Netscape acquisition. I saw AOL's vertical management percolate more and more every day into Netscape. Instead of using Netscape for what it was, a marvelous innovation tank and a reservoir of the smartest people in this industry, AOL never went beyond the Netscape 6.0 demo they had in Dulles; that one killed us, because 'the code was (not) ready.' AOL had pure platinum in its hands, and decided to trash it for a handshake with Microsoft. Of course, Microsoft's hand was covered with curare and I doubt AOL saw it before the handshake.
